This paper discusses well-established plus newly developed Ethernet connectivity for Continuous Emission Monitoring data handling systems in Cogeneration facilities. These advances are equally applicable in coal fired power generation systems. Included in the discussion are two major and unique functionalities including “modular, split architecture” software and networked analytical system diagnostics. Modular software allows placing various CEMS functions and data in different locations where it is more useful and relevant. Also discussed will be significant recent advances in displaying internal analyzer diagnostic data and analyzer system alarms that can lead to economy of operation and reduced downtime. Penalties for lack of knowledge of both current and long-term health of analytical systems can be severe, both in terms of regulatory penalties and out-of-pocket expenses. Part of the discussion focuses on the many beneficial aspects of an “integrated” CEMS DAHS that provides relevant timely information in addition to the specific requirements of 40CFR75.
