This paper presents an investigation of moisture analyzers and water-adsorbing hydraulic oil filters. A hydraulic circuit was constructed for a laboratory evaluation of water-absorbing filters. A full-flow, quick disconnect, filter assembly was constructed for a field trial of water-absorbing filters. In both cases, the filters removed free and emulsified water from the hydraulic fluids. Dissolved water was not removed. To investigate these results, the solubility of water in hydraulic oils was examined at various temperatures using a submersible relative humidity sensor and bench top moisture analyzers. Water solubility in oils was found to correlate with the additive content of the fluid.
