On July 29, 2000, a 100-metric ton high-explosive test, denoted Omega 3, was conducted in Kazakhstan at the Degelen Mountain Test Site. The test was conducted by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency with the fielding support of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The explosive was granuatol (a common form of flaked TNT used for mining in Kazakhstan). These tests were recorded by regional and some teleseismic stations. The purpose of these ground motion measurements was to provide new benchmark data on the seismic source region in hard rock that had been previously damaged by an earlier high-explosive test, conducted on September 25, 1999 (Omega 2). These tests were done in support of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Verification program. The measurements were made using two velocity measuring techniques. The gages were placed at ranges that varied from 13.5 m to 75 m from the center of the charge. All the gages registered data, albeit the accelerometers sometimes only gave time of arrival.
