Using a balance of safety measures and sound operational procedures recommended in previous sections, high optical powers of one watt (30 dBm) can be introduced into the Outside Plant fiber network with no risk of fiber failure or excessive safety concerns. 1. Apply safety rules using the proposed Safety Zones. 2. Apply handling rules using the proposed Operational Rules. 3. Apply diligent connector cleaning practices. 4. Use a power meter capable of detecting high optical powers. 5. Test fibers prior to applying high optical power for; (1) Splices < 0.2 dB (2) Bends, having a differential between 1550nm and 1625 nm of > 0.2 dB.
