Accurate measurement of channel wavelength and power is essential in the management and monitoring of DWDM optical networks. Michelson interferometer based multi-wavelength meters are used to simultaneously measure these parameters for all channels of the DWDM system. However, amplitude modulation of channels, such as in live traffic, can cause error in the multi-wavelength meter measurement of center wavelength and power. We have developed and demonstrated an improved algorithm, whereby multi-wavelength meters can now measure both unchirped modulated channels and unmodulated channels with high accuracy, independent of modulation conditions.
