Oilfield battery safety

摘要

The assurance of safety in high performing lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl{sub}2) batteries used in oilfield applications is difficult because of a lack of uniform industry-wide standards. In an effort to share our growing database of proven field experiences, we present this paper to raise the general safety awareness of oilfield batteries and encourage dialogue on common issues i.e. proper usage, shipping and disposal regulations. Specific battery failure modes both from intrinsic and extrinsic sources will be discussed along with respective remedies.
