In May 2000, an experiment was performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of passive phase conjugation (PPC) for underwater acoustic communications. PPC is a coherent array and signal processing scheme that has strong theoretical ties to active phase conjugation and time-reversal mirrors in the ocean. It differs from active techniques in that an array of transducers need only receive, while the transmitter can be a single transducer. Previous results have been presented showing performance of the algorithm for cases with a vertical receive array spanning the water column. This paper will show further results with a truncated receive array.
