Online Tutoring and Delivery of multi-level and multi-lingual Training Systems for Corrosion Technicians and Engineers

Innovative online tutoring systems have been developed in Europe with support of the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), to meet the need for modern distance learning tools for use in connection with vocational training in corrosion engineering. Financially supported by the major European Leonardo da Vinci programme on vocational training and e-learning, the authors have utilised the potential of nowadays information and communication technologies to develop state-of-the-art concepts of "anywhere anytime learning" for corrosion technicians and engineers. This resulted in a novel "corrosion training workbench", with e.g. an innovative 'hyperbolic information browser' and a variety of interactive hypermedia-based self-study materials, allowing autonomous or semi-autonomous training with "multi-level" (elementary to advanced), "multi-functional" and "multilingual" facilities in almost all domains related to corrosion and corrosion protection technology. In this paper the goals, design basis of the courses, works and contributions of all partners to the system are presented. It also illustrates and demonstrates some of the most recent results.
