The diffraction by holographically recorded gratings in volume media exhibits strong dependence with the wavelength of the illumination and therefore narrowband filters can be synthesized. The 3-D construction of holographic gratings provides opportunities for synthesizing filter shapes with unique properties and novel functionalities for telecommunications and other applications. In this presentations holographic filters will be described and recent progress1 will be reviewed.
