We present a family of constellations of even dimensions 8 and above and evaluate the performance of a low-complexity trellis coded modulation (TCM) scheme using the 8D constellation over Rayleigh fading channels. Our constant envelope constellations allow TCM to be implemented without the usual penalty paid for constellation expansion. Our constellations double the number of points available for transmission without decreasing the distance between points and without in-creasing the average or peak energies, introducing asymmetry, or increasing the modulation level. Simulatiolns indicate that our system achieves effective gains superior to others previously published for low to medium SNR on the Rayleigh fading channel.
