ELCOGAS is a consortium of several European utilities and technology suppliers that launched the Puertollano project in 1992 to demonstrate the commercial feasibility of the Integrated Gasification with Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology. The 335 MWe (ISO) demonstration plant has been designed to use a 50/50 mixture of high ash local coal and petroleum coke from a nearby refinery. Last year in 2001, the total amount of electricity produced from coal gas was 1,400 GWh, achieving a remarkable increase with respect to the previous year's production Nowadays, information management is one of the most important issues in any organisation. It is even more essential in an installation as complex and innovative as the ELCOGAS Power Plant. A good management system, which distributes the operation information in a quick and safe manner increases the operation analysis time and data accuracy, thus improving decision support in order to improve the operation plant performance. ELCOGAS is furnished with different operation data sources and calculation procedures like Aspen Infoplus, a data acquisition and monitoring system; TDG System, explained in previous papers [1][2], in charge of steady-state periods detection, on-line thermal balances, process performance calculations and diagnose departures from a base line; or the laboratory analysis.
