Local information providing service system for public WLAN

摘要

In this paper, we describe the Local Information Providing Service System (LIPS) to intelligently provide the region information at various hotspot areas with public WLAN technology. The LIPS is the one of various steps in our research aimed at i-WING based on the public WLAN. Public WLAN means the platform which bridge to public networks at public areas with wireless access technology. There are four major elements for the LIPS: 802.11a, 802.11 b technology to associate wireless access, DHCP protocol to provide dynamic network configurations, IEEE 802.1x standard to control access and provide authentication, and web server operations to provide the region services. Our service for public WLAN can provide the various business models for m-commerce and many conveniences for users.
