LCOS Technology for Home Projector

Liquid Crystal on Si (LCOS) is preferable to realize home use projectors. We have developed a 1920 x 1080 pixels silicon-chip-based reflective liquid crystal light valve with a diagonal display area of 0.7inch for high-definition TV (HDTV) projectors. The display mode of this LCOS is the normally white reflective twisted nematic mode. Cell gap is made small by this display mode and fast response time for video applications. Approximately, 2 μm cell gap is selected. The response time is less than 6 ms including rise and fall time on operation. The contrast ratio is higher than 1000:1 at 5 Vrms that is a key item for video application.
