Recovery Prediction for Cold Rolled Can Body Stock

Static recovery occurring during coil cooling of cold rolled Can Body Stock (CBS) is an important aspect in determining the yield stress of the final gauge CBS sheet. In this study, CBS materials were cold rolled and heat treated, followed by tensile testing. Classical physically based recovery equations were used to derive the recovery kinetics from the data. An algorithm was developed to apply the isothermal recovery kinetics to the coil cooling process. A recovery model, as a function of thermo-mechanical processing history, was developed and successfully tested against experimental data.
