Mathematical techniques are discussed here for analysis of sandwich structures with core damage, and face sheets cracks. Cracks may be present in one or both face sheets. A software code SANDOPT is written to compute stress intensity factors (SIFs), and core and face sheet stresses. The analysis is verified with available finite element results and crack growth data on metal panels. An excellent agreement has been obtained between analytical predictions and test data. A parametric study was carried out on a sandwich panel with composite face sheets to investigate the influences of various parameters on SIFs. The results indicate that core damage has significant influence on SIFs.
