Women play a key role in the management of natural resources. Perhaps it is only natural to expect that renewable energy management has been one of their main concerns. They are the one group badly hit by environmental degradation and poverty. Interestingly, they are also the key players in environmental conservation. The effort for more than ten years has been to slowly awaken people to recognize the need for conservation of energy, as well as empower women, as a twin strategy. To sustain both the empowerment of women and use of renewable energy sources, micro-credit has become an inalienable tool. The various experiments and our experience has also proved that micro-financing has really ushered the change that the government, the NGOs and civil society as a whole have been looking forward to.
