In machining processes, cutting fluids are generally used from cooling and lubricating workpieces at the point cutting. However, these fluids frequently include chlorine, sulfur, phosphorus, or other additives. And, these chemicals not only become a mist affecting the health in the processing but also make the workshop environment worse. Especially, the chlorine becomes one of the causes of global warming by treating wasted oil under high temperature conditions. It is furthermore said that not only the occurrence of huge cost beyond the purchase cost of oil but also that of dioxin (carcinogen) exists in the waste oil treatment. Therefore, environment-friendly Cooling Air Cutting system is required from the standpoint of green manufacturing. This system has been noted as a technique to solve the issues against the environment mentioned above. Especially, in the Cooling Air Cutting processing, the amount of CO{sub}2 emission shows the low value below 50% compared with the dry cutting one which uses the oil. Therefore, it is thought that the cooling one is a very important processing technique as an environmental countermeasure. This study deals with the test results of Cooling Air Drilling performance from the viewpoint of taking green manufacturing into account. The workpiece of die steel SKD11 was performed by the Cooling Air Drilling performance in the revolution of 840rpm at 253K(-2°C) with high speed steel drill (SKH56) and the results were compared with that of dry cutting performance. The main results obtained by this study are as follows: 1) The tool life of Cooling Air Drilling performance is about 7 times as long as that of the dry cutting. 2) The chip temperature of cooling air drilling was 220°C lower than that of the dry cutting.
