Using ModSAF in Czech Army: The current Status

The Czech Army has selected the use of ModSAF as the primary simulation model for battalion staff training. The decision was made in 1999, where ModSAF International, version 4, was released to the Czech government. The original version did not contain the Czech Army units, equipment and the behavior of semiautomated forces did not correspond to the Czech Army tactical doctrine. Another problem were terrain databases because the Czech Army had to create them to provide trained units possibility to use the same plans for simulation and field exercises. This paper deals with implementation this system and a system for AAR at Cuech Army simulation center To provide the best simulation capability necessary for Czech units, it had to be customized. New possibilities for customizing were given by releasing the source code of ModSAF to the Czech Army. It was necessary to create terrain databases from a digital map model of Czech training areas, create Czech units and vehicles. Current status of battalion and brigade exercises setup is discussed. The paper concentrates on technical aspects of customizing model parameters and behaviors of vehicles and units.
