Mitigation of Methane Emissions from Disused Coal Mines

Alkane Energy plc has developed a greenhouse gas capture technology which could mitigate up to 13 million tonnes of CO_2 equivalent being emitted from abandoned UK coal mines. This vacuum pump based technology has so far reduced CO_(2e) emissions by more than 500,000 tonnes since the first capture plant was opened in 1999. The potential emissions savings if this technology was applied worldwide are enormous.
