The phenomenon of collapse is one of the problems in karst areas, and this paper is concerned with the study of evaluating the risk degree of karst collapse alongside railways. The study consists of two parts: First, on the basis of field investigation, macroscopic regional prediction of karst collapse was conducted by the statistic method of information quantity. Second, The microscopic site prediction was carried out by using fuzzy sets, i.e. determining the actual position or location of karst collapse alongside railways. And an index (KCPI) was defined for measuring the potential of karst collapse. Finally an applied example is presented to demonstrate the method, its feasibility was shown by the fact that analytical results coincide with the actual condition of karst collapse fairly well.
