APPLICATION OF SELF-SUPPORTING PRECIOUS METAL STIRRERS IN THE MELTING OF SODA-LIME GLASS

For many years, self-supporting designs for glass stirrers made of grain stabilized PGM (Platinum Group Metals) alloys have proven their outstanding performance, primarily in specialty borosilicate glass applications. Until now, temperature homogenization in soda-lime glass applications was commonly achieved by using ceramic stirrers. Ceramic stirrers have historically been viewed as the most economical alternative for applications where stirring temperatures are usually lower and homogeneity requirements are moderate.
