A dramatically improved method for providing automatic portion control offers more accurate measuring of portions, regardless of the amount of substance that has already been placed into the container, accurate portion control at varying flow rates, and accurate fill capacity without requiring an overflow sensor to deactivate dispensing. Other advantages of this product include removing a path for product contamination, and minimizing product waste, inaccurate fills, and messes that cause customer complaints. The overall system is comprised of a dispensing mechanism for dispensing a substance into a container, a scale for weighing the container, and electronic control circuitry for using the container weight read from the scale to control the dispensing mechanism.
