In this paper, design approaches for digital H{sub}∞ filters are discussed. In particular, two design methods, called indirect and direct design respectively, are proposed to develop a class of digital H{sub}∞ filters. The indirect design is a pure discrete-time one while the direct design develops digital H{sub}∞ filters directly for continuous plants using the so-called lifting technique and taking inter-sample information into account. Possible selection of a special digital H{sub}∞ filter from the admissible class is also discussed.
