Summary of Detailed Energy Audit and Building Simulation on Archetype Sustainable House, Woodbridge ON

As concerns for a limited energy future continues to grow, decreasing energy requirements is of utmost importance. As technology advances, there exists equipment and systems to be installed in residential homes that are more energy efficient. Recently, houses that require zero energy input from public infrastructures were built in demonstrating the feasibility of completely self-sufficient houses. The purpose of the Archetype Sustainable House, located at the Kortright Centre, just north of Toronto was to demonstrate an affordable, low-energy, healthy home that can be mass-produced with a small ecological footprint. The two houses formed a duplex and named House A and House B: House A carried the best practices of design to date, and was equipped with common energy efficient technologies used in local housing. House B showcased advanced and innovative technologies, which were not commonly used in residential constructions. This initiative will play a large role in transforming the residential housing market, and reducing the amount of energy needed to sustain these homes.
