A set of tools is presented to predict the EMC performance of inverters, and to design the EMC filters with accuracy, from the sparse data available at an early development stage. A PWB layout procedure is presented to eliminate most of the unknown variables, so that an accurate prediction may be made from the electrical parameters. Fundamental mathematical equations are used, but the complex mathematics is handled by MathCad/sup (R)/ software so the designer can concentrate on the EMC issues. The data required are just simple electrical quantities initially, to which more information may be added later on, as it becomes available. The results are presented in the frequency domain for direct comparison to the EMC Standards.
