Analysis of Noise Mitigation Measures of a Pharmaceutical Factory through Acoustical Simulation - A Case Study

This paper is a case study concerning the noise emitted by the operation of a pharmaceutical factory in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The study involved noise measurements inside and outside the boundaries of the factory, considering day and night periods, at strategic points: 3 points in the neighborhood, 19 points at the perimeter of the site and 39 points at the noise sources inside the site. A digital model, which took into account the factory and vicinity geometry, as well as the topography of the study area, was developed using noise modelling software. The digital model was then calibrated in order to reproduce the conditions found at the site, considering the noise measurements taken near the noise sources. After that, a sound propagation simulation was performed under different scenarios. Various equipment arrangements were considered, aiming at the identification of the most impactful sources inside the factory. Once the noisier sources were identified, the best noise mitigation measures for each equipment were simulated through the noise modelling software in order to satisfy the Brazilian noise criteria standards.
