Titanium and its alloys are considered as promising materials for implant materials because of their excellent corrosion resistance and good biocompatibility with human tissue. Recently, new titanium alloys without any toxic elements have been developed for surgical implants instead of conventional titanium alloys which usually contain Al, V as alloying elements that have toxicity to human body. Instead of alloying method, reinforcing titanium with ceramics is a candidate way for improving the mechanical properties of pure titanium. On the other hand, alumina has been a popular choice for biomedical applications owing to its satisfactory biocompatibility. Fabrication of composites by alumina for titanium matrix may be expected to expand application of titanium for biomedical purpose, titanium matrix composites reinforced with alumina short fiber were fabricated by hot-press technique in the present research. The results are considered to be crucial for designing a biomaterial material.
