A new fluorinated well-defined diblock copolymer, polystyrene capped with the fluorinated oligomer, (perfluorononenyloxy)benzenesulfone(R_f-PS), were synthesized. The polymerization was carried out initiated by a macroinitiator, (perfluorononenyloxy)benzenesulfonyl chloride(FBSC), catalyzed by cuprous chloride-2,2′-bipyridine(CuCl-Bpy) complex. The molecular weight (M_(GPC)) of the diblock copolymer increased with styrene conversion and matched the theoretical one, M_(th), which indicated the good control of the polymerization. The surface tensions of polystyrene(PS) and Poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene)(ABS) were markedly lowed by adding as little amount of R_f-PS in them.
