The New Puddefjord Bridge is a concrete arch bridge spanning 150 m crossing open waters in an urban area and is constructed next to an existing bridge with similar visual appearance. Both bridges together form a part of the main access road to the centre of Bergen and are mutually related to the corresponding road and tunnel system. Construction of the new bridge was carried out with traffic running on the existing bridge and boat traffic below the two bridges. Hence, the design of the bridge and selection of construction method was strongly related.
