A new heavy gas dispersion model―STA-HGDM (Static and Turbulent Atmosphere Heavy Gas Dispersion Model), including static atmosphere model and turbulent atmosphere model, is summarized and developed on the basis of analyzing the existing models. Using the STA-HGDM model, seven Throney Island Trials, which are different from each other in environment conditions, are simulated. The simulation results of STA-HGDM, IIT Heavy Gas Model, HEGADAS model, MARIAH model and the test data are compared with each other. The comparison indicates the STA-HGDM has the advantages of simple form, good simulation precision and quick calculation. Through analyzing and discussing the simulation results, the disadvantages of STA-HGDM and the main research contents and directions in the future in the field are pointed out.
