摘要

The influence of prominent harbour moles (2.5 km cross-shore; 1 km longshore) upon a wave-dominated shoreface has been identified. It is shown that the effects extend beyond the shoreline and localised shoreface (i.e. up to 2 km from the moles) such that they can be identified over the entire shoreface up to 18 km either side of the moles. These effects are identified as shoreface activity, which is shown to increase with temporal period up to the data limits (32 years). Hence, anthropogenic intervention can have a much greater influence than often appreciated. These results have coastal engineering and managerial significance, especially over the larger temporal and spatial scales.
