In situ particle size and settling velocity spectra of suspended sediment in the Pearl River Estuary were directly measured by a LISST-ST (Laser In Situ Scattering and Transmissometry). Preliminary observations show that the in situ median diameter of suspended sediments varied from 10um to 96um. Measured in situ settling velocity of particle with different sizes ranged from 0.001 to 0.02cm/s and appeared to be described by the formula: ω_i=k·d_i~n (0.2
