The piled breakwater treated in this study consists of a group of circular cylinders. In order to examine the reflection and transmission characteristics of the pile breakwater, hydraulic model tests have been used. To examine the result observed in these experiments, we used Madsen-Kondo theory that is a simplified explicit solution for reflection and transmission coefficients of porous structures based on the shallow water wave theory. The agreement between these calculated values and measured values is found to be fairly good. The coefficient of flow resistance of the breakwater needed to evaluate the reflection and transmission coefficients ranges approximately from 0.1 to 0.6, and the coefficient of inertia force ranges approximately from 1.1 to 2.1.
