The motion characteristic of hydraulic-driven reciprocating pump (HDRP for short) determines that its pressure variation regularity (PVR for short) is different from that of traditional mechanical-driven reciprocating pump. The paper thoroughly analyzes and studies PVR inside suction main pipe and discharging pipe of HDRP with double cylinders & double action as well as PVR inside the cylinder in the process of sucking and discharging, derives specific calculating formula, and carries out a systematical research. The pressure variation curve measured from the experiment adequately reflects PVR; the experiment result is consistent with theoretical analysis. The experiment shows variation of pressure and flow in sucking and discharging pipe of HDRP is smooth and steady In addition, at the instant of start and end of discharging, influenced by accelerating and decelerating of piston, pressure impulse and water hammer easily occurs. Piston reversing control accuracy plays an influential role in PVR of the pump; accordingly, it is one of the key techniques in design of HDRP to design reasonable stroke reversing control devices with appropriate accelerating and, decelerating process of piston.
