Osteosarcoma (OSA) is by far the most common primary bone tumor in dogs, and it is estimated that, in the United States alone, over 9,000 dogs per year will be diagnosed with OSA. Although not restricted to any particular age range, canine patients diagnosed with OSA are often middle-aged to older dogs of large or giant breeds. Like many tumor histologies, certain breeds are definitely overrepresented for OSA development, including the Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, golden retriever, Irish wolfhound, and greyhound.
