An analysis of test methods on quality surveillance of high explosives used in military forces of republic of poland

A need and importance of quality surveillance of high explosives (HEs) were described taking into consideration safety of HEs usage and their reliability functioning in ammunition stored for a long time - just before and after guarantee period. Test methods on physico-chemical properties having an influence on quality of HEs and HEs charges were discussed - esp. the test methods of HEs chemical and thermal stability. There were presented classical test methods on stability such as iodostarch test-paper method (Abel Heat), Hansen test, test on thermal decomposition at 75 deg C and tests with application of thermal analysis techniques DTA/TGA and DSC. Criteria on assessment of HEs quality (including criteria on HEs stability) were also given for HEs being in military service just before finishing their shelf-time, guaranteed by manufactures.
