Behavior of microcapsules in personal care formulations

A number of personal care products like shampoos, conditioners, shower/bath gels, and body cleansing gels containing microcapsules have been marketed. These products are viscous, aqueous-based solutions that contain 20-40 different ingredients, several of which typically are surfactants. Thus, they are complex storage systems in which one or more of the components present, especially surfactants, can affect microcapsule stability and performance. The purpose of this study is to gain insight into the properties of microcapsules by characterizing their behavior in such products.
