Commercially available photovoltaic (PV) modules provide label ratings of electrical performance parameters at standard reporting conditions (SRC). Module manufacturers may also provide label ratings at normal operating cell temperature (NOCT). Additionally, module data sheets may provide I-V curves for a few sets of operating conditions. However, in order to accurately predict PV array performance for system design or monitoring, more information is needed. A method for accurately modeling module and array I-V characteristics over a broad range of cell temperature and solar irradiance is necessary. This paper presents a model for predicting module or array I-V curves at all reasonable operating conditions. The development of the model is presented and in three steps. Verification of the model is carried out by comparing modeled I-V curves with experimental I-V curves. The model is found to agree very well with the experimental curves with less than 5% error in maximum power and maximum power voltage.
