A New Tantalum Capacitor Product Family that meets high standards of reliability, higher operating temperatures and cost efficiency is now offered for the most demanding applications, such as automotive electronics. Today's automotive industry applications range from airbags and ABS to engine management and more. The electronics content per vehicle is constantly increasing with time as new "smart" electronic systems are developed and adopted as standard equipment. This new series enables an increase in maximum working temperature for standard tantalum capacitors from 125°C up to 150°C. The climatic category is improved from -55/125/56 to -55/150/56. Basic reliability of the product is 0.5%/1000 hours, which is 50% better then the standard 1%/1000 hours reliability. The development of this series required new techniques, materials and processes in order to improve on the characteristics of standard tantalum capacitors. Material development focused on modification of molding compound characteristics while process development was required for stabilization of electrical parameters at higher operating temperatures.
