Due to the heightened awareness of bridge designers and bridge owners to corrosion problems on both new and old cable supported structures, considerable attention has been devoted to this topic over the past 5 to 10 years. This focus has resulted in a proposed fourth edition to the Post Tensioning Institute's (PTI) "Recommendations for Stay Cable Design, Testing and Installation" which provides state-of-the-art performance-based specifications for the selection and certification of at least two independent corrosion protection systems on cable-stayed bridges. In addition, new products such as the Cableguard~(TM) elastomeric cable wrap system have been introduced into the market as an effective and economical solution to providing a corrosion protection system on both new construction and rehabilitation of cable supported structures.
