Raman scattering from normal and diseased human breast tissues

While breast cancer, as the most common malignant tumor, is a major cause of death in women in the word, it has been well believed that diagnosis and treatment of the cancer at early and treatable stage may lead, at least, to a considerable reduction of mortality. Traditional diagnostic methods, however, including clinical examination, screening mammography as well as fine needle aspiration cytology, are often nonspecific or need sufficient tissues, and even leading to nonpalpable results. In contrast to the routine medical diagnosis, Raman scattering method, as an optical biopsy technique, holds promise for an asccurate, rapid, nondestructive, and noninvasive identification of molecule components of biopsy specimens. Diagnostic information is papers have been published on the Raman scattering studies of normal and abnormal breast tissues and obtained lipid and protein distribution of human breast tissues [3-5].
