About 60 millions AP-mines infest today 70 countries; the real problems to solve are: the precise localisation of the minefields, the detection of all UXO's (Unexploded Objects) and their removal. Specific tasks could be entrusted to mechanical mine-clearers (or, if rendable, roboticized sensor-carriers) :the cutting of the vegetation, the detection tasks in very dense and dangerous areas, the delimitation of the borders of a suspected area, the inspection of an area after manual demining or mechanical clearance. The partners of the European Thematic Network Clawar have analysed how Robotics systems, Clawar in particular could help to solve those specific problems while the members of the BE Interuniversity consortium HUDEM have focused on the development of tools that could help to solve the problems of the detection and/or the removal of AP-mines.
