摘要

The most current building code enforced in most jurisdictions in the United States is the 2006 International Building Code (IBC). The 2006 IBC references the 2005 edition of the standard Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures prepared by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE 7-05) for its seismic provisions. In addition to higher force demand requirements on anchorage and bracing, ASCE 7-05 contains other specific requirements for certain critical nonstructural components in essential facilities with the goal that these components will likely maintain their function following design earthquake level events. This paper discusses these specific requirements including seismic certification requirements for critical active mechanical and electrical equipment by shake table testing or experience data. Shake table testing protocols that have also been developed which are consistent with the ASCE 7-05 seismic provisions are also discussed.
