Pasteurella multocida, the cause of fowl cholera, is considered one of the most important organism responsible for severe economic losses in poultry industry. Capsule of the organism is known to be a virulence factor resisting phagocytosis. On the other hand, we demonstrated that the adhhesive ability of capsulated and virulent P. multocida strain to chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cells was high twice as noncapsulated and avirulent strain, and the ability might be associated with capsular protein. Then the authors attempted to detect and characterize the protein as an adherence factor by biochemical and immunological analyses.
