Low temeprature, continuous, direct-fired drying applications present unique challenges for low emission combustion systems. While flue gas temperatures are low, the absence of any low oxygen content gases virtually eliminates the use of flue gas recireculation for NOx emission reduction. Protection of the flame envelope form recirculate dprocess streams is also essential for minimum CO production. For systems requiring high heat input burners (15 MW or more), combustion chambers can become expensive due to the chamber length and diameter needed for flame containment.
