This paper presents a new software technology for design synthesis in electromagnetics called Optimetrics. Optimetrics makes it possible to solve a wide range of design problems such as shape optimization, configuration optimization, and system identification. Three applications are presented in this paper. Two of the applications belong to the area of shape optimization. The first one has the purpose of shaping a magnetic pole face so that a desired distribution of magnetic field in the air gap is achieved. The second optimization problem finds the optimum distribution of thickness for a resistive layer that yields a uniform power loss density distribution. The third application is a system identification problem where the software searches the solution space and determines the optimal match to measured values.
