Fracture control requirements for gas transmission pipelines

The public is demanding safer pipelines. Typically, the public is not aware of the presence of pipelines because they are buried and removed from sight unless an incident occurs and then they become concerned depending on the location and consequences of the incident. In the U.S., this concern is making it difficult to secure right of way for pipelines because of the consequences of incidents that have occurred. Pipeline designs need to incorporate fracture control measures and risk methodologies to reduce the potential for an incident to occur and also to limit the consequences of incident if one should occur.
