New weldable supermartensitic stainless steels for wet gas transport and processing

Recently, life cycle cost analysis has shown that the use of Corrosion Resistant Alloys in alternative to carbon steel line pipes transporting wet gas and needing the use of inhibitors is a profitable solution for lines of 8-30" O.D. and up to 30 Kms long. Duplex stainless steels pipes are already used since several years. A new lean alloy stainless steel has been developed particularly for sweet and slightly sour environments. This paper presents the main characteristics - strength, toughness, corrosion resistance - of this family of steel, as well as pipe fabrication and characterization.
