New Technologies For Demonstrating environmental Science Impacts to Society

Software tools used to demonstrate the impact of environmental phenomena typically rely on two-dimensional graphic displays to create a visual picture illustrating the impact on a particular geographic area. These two-dimensional displays can communicate information and impacts effectively. However the technological advancements in display software now provide tools which can illustrate impacts more easily in both two and three dimensions, giving the general public a better interpretation of the environmental impact on a particular geographic region. This article will provide an overview of one state-of-the-art software tool which can generate visualizations of environmental phenomena in three-dimensional scenes. It can also generate a composite picture of environmental data with the corresponding map and terrain data for a particular region. This tool is the enhanced Digital Geodata Environment (EDGE) software package.
