A Genetic Algorithm Approach to a Production Distribution Strategy with Fuzzy Due Dates

This paper is concerned with a production distribution strategy for a multinational garment company in Hong Kong. Production distribution processing is subject to certain constraints such as product design, preference for a particular manufacturing location, import/export quotas. Production distribution problmes for this kind of special production structure resemble to flow shop scheduling problems. After considering the problem at hand, we apply fuzzy due date to solve the problem, and define a membership function to represent customer satisfaction grades. The objective function is the sum of the weighted membership function of all orders. Our problem is to find the optimal production sequence in different geographic regions for the maximum objective function value. We also present a genetic algorithm for solving this model. The algorithm is tested on the data collected from the company. Computational results show that the algorithm performs well.
